BIRTH REGISTRATION
Birth Registration of a person born abroad, for children of Costa Rican mother or father.
Requirements:

Original birth certificate issued by the corresponding authority of the country of origin, translated into Spanish, notarized and legalized.

Copy of the identity card of the Costa Rican mother or father.

Complete the Birth Registration Form at the consular office.

If the person concerned is under the age of eighteen, the declaration must be made by the Costa Rican parent by birth, carrying a valid identity document. If the person is over the age of 18 and under 25 years of age, the declaration must be made by the person concerned, carrying valid identity document. Persons over 25 must first apply for residence and then naturalize.
Cost: The procedure has no administrative costs. The user must make a deposit of $100 in cash at the consulate, corresponding to the payment of the courier in order to send the documentation to the Civil Registry in Costa Rica.
Approximate duration: 3 months if registered at the consulate. From 22 to 65 working days at the Civil Registry in Costa Rica.
